And it’s no wonder, as it’s definitely one of the most popular fragrance lines in the world, not just because of strong and recognizable DNA, but also because of the fact that there are 11 flankers in the line. And that’s just the category for men!
In 2022, Dolce&Gabbana released the flanker that quickly took over the world by storm – Light Blue Italian Love Pour Homme.

What Does Light Blue Italian Love Smell Like?
Dolce&Gabbana Light Blue Italian Love smells very citrusy, light, and ozonic, where the main note that leads the composition is the grapefruit.
Notes pyramid looks like this:
- Top notes: Grapefruit, Bergamot
- Heart notes: Ozonic notes, Green notes, Violet, Cashmeran
- Base notes: Vetiver, Musk, Patchouli, Guaiac wood
Light Blue Italian Love is a scent very focused on the opening notes, which justifies its success in popularity – it’s likely that the majority of people will buy the fragrance just based on its opening, as it truly is beautiful.
The opening is citrus heavy and grapefruit is the note you will be able to sense through the entire fragrance’s lifespan.
After the opening passes light ozonic notes will make the scent very airy. There’s definitely a green touch with cashmeran coziness that can be sensed as well. Violet leaf is what gives it an almost watery effect so if you feel the beach vibe, that’s it!
The base supports the entire composition with dry vetiver which cannot be sensed actually as it serves the purpose of elevating the airiness of the scent. Musk, Patchouli, and Guiacac wood give it a slightly minty and creamy touch, which softens the scent.
In general, Light Blue Italian Love will serve perfectly as a fresh and light fragrance.
It definitely has a mass-appeal factor where almost anyone who smells it will like it. However, due to the scent’s uniqueness (or lack of one), I didn’t personally get many compliments, so don’t expect it to be a head-turner.
There’s definitely a big resemblance with Light Blue Forever (Pour Homme) but we’ll get more into those details later.
Overall, in terms of scent, Light Blue Italian Love is definitely a safe blind buy that has almost no chance to go wrong.
How Long Does Light Blue Italian Love Pour Homme Last?
On average, Dolce&Gabbana Light Blue Italian Love Pour Homme will last around 7 hours, while projecting well for the first 2 hours.
Considering that this is a freshie, it’s safe to say that the performance of Light Blue Italian Love is decent.
For this type of scent, we usually don’t expect longevity of 7 hours, but after testing it on my skin and after some of the tests my colleagues conducted, the average is 7 hours until it becomes a skin scent.
Projection and sillage could be better, but I feel like that was done on purpose by D&G – if you want better projection and sillage, some other Light Blue flankers offer much better solutions.
On average, Light Blue Italian Love will project well for the first couple of hours, and it will go 2-3 feet far. Sillage is moderate, and it will leave a decent trace behind you.
How Many Sprays Is Enough?
6-8 sprays are the optimal amount of Light Blue Italian Love Pour Homme to achieve optimal performance.
This is a type of fragrance that simply cannot be overapplied since it’s very light and airy.
Saying that, feel free to spray it wherever and as much as you want, but bear in mind that spraying on the same spot multiple times will not improve the performance.
In order to get optimal longevity and projection spray it behind your ears, on the sides of your neck, in the dips of the collarbone, and on the inner sides of the elbow.
You can apply it on your clothes but bear in mind that fragrances on the clothes don’t open properly as they do on your skin. Also, avoid spraying it on your hair as the alcohol may damage your hair.
Overall, very decent performance even though the concentration is eau de toilette.
When To Wear Light Blue Italian Love?
The season to wear Light Blue Italian Love Pour Homme is summer and spring days when the temperature is above 75°F.
Due to its airy, citrusy, and light properties, Light Blue Italian Love will perfectly work for warm days, even during high heat.
I wouldn’t recommend wearing it around colder days as it will not be able to open and perform as it should.
When it comes to occasion, the scent is very versatile which allows you to wear Light Blue Italian Love Pour Homme absolutely anywhere.
Since it’s non-offensive, it may work perfectly as a work/office scent, but due to its likable scent, you can easily pull it off on date nights or any type of casual occasion.
The only place I’d recommend avoiding are places where the crowd is just too big – that is if you want to be noticed for your perfume. This isn’t an aggressive type of scent and other fragrances in the air will easily win that battle.
If you’re alright with that, then go ahead, as those who come near you will definitely be able to sense it.
Light Blue Italian Love vs Other Flankers
When I first smelled this, it was simply impossible not to notice the resemblance with Light Blue Forever.
Frankly, this more looks like a flanker of Light Blue Forever than a flanker of Light Blue.
The reason for this is that Light Blue Forever (Pour Homme) really did something different in the world of summer fragrances for men. That grapefruit opening and grapefruit dominance in general was really a curveball for others to catch up with because truth be told, we all got bored with standard fresh scents.
At some point, there was no one on the market that offers something that stands out.
Light Blue Forever changed that, but it lost its mass-appeal factor. It was amazing, but that grapefruit was simply too much for some people.
Well, that’s exactly where Light Blue Italian Love – as a perfectly balanced Light Blue Forever.
Light Blue Forever is definitely stronger, longer lasting, and better projecting, but Italian Love softens that grapefruit making it not that much dominant, and dries down to much more sensual tones.
On the other hand, there’s Light Blue Eau Intense that has a resemblance with the grapefruit in the opening, but Light Blue Eau Intense is simply a standard designer freshie, made with the intent to have a super powerful mass-appeal effect and to achieve great sales. It’s definitely the safest of them all.
Personally, I find Light Blue Italian Love the best flanker out of them all.

To be honest with you, this will be my personal everyday wear for summer 2023. I loved this fragrance so much, that even after testing hundreds of others, me and my team had to include it in our list of best summer fragrances for men in 2023.
The scent is absolutely amazing, it’s one of the best flankers of the entire line (along with Forever), it has a very decent performance and it smells different from what other designers are releasing.
Bear in mind that Light Blue Italian Love is a limited edition – if you are planning to get it, make sure to do so ASAP as it won’t be around forever.
